Weather for Roskilde Festival

Every year there is a fear of rain (check out some muddy pics from 2004 or 2007 and you know what I mean), but the perfect weather for Roskilde Festival is not just to have sunshine for the whole week. With just a few consecutive dry days the festival becomes one big dusty cloud - imagine 100.000 people walking aroud on dry dirt for a day or two. For the festival weather, we rather want some raindrops once in a while, to cool the people down he he, and to keep the dust on the ground. Above you see the current weather forecast that includes the first couple of days (Sunday through Wednesday) and in my opinion, it looks like very decent weather for the purpose. :o)

See you at Roskilde Festival!

The Russian connection

It is funny what you can learn from reading your web stats. I found my page was referenced from this russian site about Roskilde Festival. I cannot read it, but I find it rather cool to be a reference for other Festival Freaks.

Holiday planning

While everybody else is busy planning Roskilde Festival (what to see, what to sing, what to drink, what to wear, where to sleep, if to sleep, how to survive for a week living on beer alone) I am busy planning my vacation to Vancouver, Canada. Together with my parents and my sister we will visit both Vancouver and Vancouver Island. We plan on touring the magnificent landscape in our camper van, to spend time whale watching, bear watching, maybe kayaking, and definitely pay a visit to Josh and his family. After more than ten years of contact without ever seeing each other, I am very excited about finally getting the chance to meet my dear friend Josh.

Spare time

The programming project I was doing for Roskilde Festival got finished last week. After several weeks of working both at work (doing my job) and at home (working for the festival), I finally have some time left over for hobbies and friends again. So I will enjoy my spare time in the two weeks I have left before my summer holidays to do some more dancing, do some reading and watch some more movies.

Programming for music

I am currently working in my spare time on a web project for Roskilde Festival which I volunteered for through the Roskilde Festival homepage. In return, on top of the honour of having contributed to the smooth execution of the best music festival in Europe, I get a free ticket to the festival.

The festival has lots of positions for volunteers every year, you can find them by checking out their website under 'jobs'.

Bevrijdingsfestival Wageningen

Only five days after the renowned Queensday celebration, there is another great public celebration in Holland, the liberation day. All over Holland, on May 5th, the Dutch celebrate the end of the German occupation during WW2.
One of the biggest events is the festival in Wageningen where the capitulation documents were signed. Here they transform the whole city to present live music of all sorts, from jazz to heavy to techno to world music. In the park they have artists performing clowns acts, acrobatics, capoiera, flamenco music and dance. My favourites this year were the enticing rhythms of the samba band, and the lively show of Grupo Azul!

Weekend in Hamburg

With the primary aim of meeting my sister and watching the marathon, I did not expect to see much of the city itself. Luckily, our host for the weekend accomodated us in the very centre of Hamburg, close to the Central Station in the street Lange Reihe. To our pleasant surprise, the local street festival in Lange Reihe coincided with the weekend of the marathon. So both Saturday and Sunday, we enjoyed the great weather, the shops, the shows, the music and the wonderful relaxed and fun atmosphere of the street festival.
And no, we did not forget the marathon. We managed to see the people from my sisters team three times along the route, and we had great fun taking photos and cheering the best we could manage.

Farlig tiger

Rotterdam Film Festival is finished for this time. Unfortunately, I missed it again, because I chose to dance salsa instead. Yesterday the usual Salsa Under the Bridge was relocated to IMAX instead of Prachtig. Fotos from the party are available at www.typicaltropical.nl
